The positioner is a non-adjustable appliance that is also used as a retainer to prevent relapse after the braces are removed. It can also be used for active tooth movement if the desired movement is designed into the appliance when it is made. This appliance will last many years with a minimal amount of maintenance.

The Crozat appliance is familiar in the New Orleans area. This appliance is used for active tooth movement.

Invisalign is a treatment method utilizing a series of clear plastic appliances for active tooth movement. The appliance can also be used as a retainer.

The Essix appliance is similar to the Invisalign appliance and is used as a retainer. It can also be used for tooth movement.

All of the above appliances can be used to move teeth.  Similar malocclusions can often be treated  any of the above appliances. Different lengths of treatment as well as costs are different with each appliance. The choice of which one is best for you is determined on an individual basis.
